MANAGING WASTE TO SECURE A GREEN FUTURE

Waste management is the handling of discarded materials. Recycling and composting which  transform waste into useful products are forms of waste management . It is a very important issue today. With so much concern recently about being more green and eco friendly , waste management has become must in the current scenario . Keeping this in mind Green Bandhu a group of committed environment-friendly students working in promoting innovative solutions for waste management at D.L D.A.V MODEL SCHOOL . The Green Bandhu ambassadors contribute their earnest efforts for the efficient management of biodegradable waste by converting it into compost using Roli Poli composter .
It is an one such pioneering system for compost making which is already in use in our school . Roli Poli helps in converting kitchen waste into very useful and valuable compost in a hygienic and a clean manner.

Every day  from our school canteen , kitchen waste i.e. organic waste is collected on a newspaper by the class Xth students .
Then some amount of calcium oxide (quick lime) is added to it along with a few dry leaves to maintain the pH.
All this waste is put into the ROLI POLI composter and the composter is made to roll once.
After 20-25 days, this waste transform into the manure which is used in our school garden.
To spread awareness towards green, clean and healthy environment among the
society , our students designed pamphlets with the theme “Recycling Today’s Waste For Tomorrow’s World” . These pamphlets were circulated in the nearby residential area to build environmental concerns .

This project give students a sense of responsibility for the waste and it is a positive way to keep the environment clean for a healthy lifestyle. It make us think, reflect and act for a sustainable habitat . Such activities empower us to face the challenge and emerge as winners . They also promote and sensitize society on recycling waste for a cleaner habitat.
This is how wealth out of waste is created by Green Bandhu Ambassadors. We religiously preserve the ideology of reducing, reusing
,recycling and going green in the way we think , the way we work and the way we live our life.

We believe
“Waste it once, pay for it twice,
manage it today and the earth would be nice”.
